Das neunte Spiel der ELF-Saison 2022 brachte die neunte Niederlage für Stuttgart Surge und eine schmerzhafte noch dazu.
Bereits der Spielbeginn war denkbar schlecht, denn die Raiders konnten den Kickoff direkt in die Endzone tragen und sofort mit 7:0 in Führung gehen. Nachdem der erste Stuttgarter Drive in einem Punt endete, dachten die Raiders, dass ein Pass auf Adrian Platzgummer in der Endzone landete, doch ein Review sagte anderes. Die Tiroler ließen sich dadurch nicht aufhalten und konnten durch einen Run von Lukas Haslwanter und den Extra Point schließlich auf 14:0 erhöhen. Ein guter Lauf von Dante Vandeven brachte zwar einige Yards für Stuttgart, jedoch keine Punkte. Haslwanter machte es besser und konnte seinen zweiten Touchdown erzielen und das erste Quarter endete beim Stand von 21:0. Quarter zwei ging weiter wie das Erste und die Raiders konnten durch zwei weitere Runs auf 35:0 davonziehen. Surge kassierte indessen viele Strafen durch die Referees und erst eine Interception von Malcolm Washington, die er bis in die gegnerische Endzone trug, war das erste Stuttgarter Lebenszeichen. Leider wurde der Touchdown annulliert und die Tiroler konnten mit Ballbesitz fortsetzen und zum 42:0 davonziehen. Der nächste Stuttgarter Drive wurde stark vorgetragen und Neuzugang Philéas Pasqualini konnte erst kurz vor der Goal Line gestoppt werden. Zwei Sekunden vor der Halbzeit konnte dann Jonata Loria die ersten drei Punkte für Surge erzielen und es ging beim Stand von 42: 3 in die Kabinen.
In Halbzeit zwei mussten beide Teams dem heißen Sommerwetter Tribut zollen und konnten das Tempo der ersten Hälfte nicht mehr aufrecht erhalten. Surge konnte die Raiders im vierten Versuch vom Feld zwingen, jedoch wurde Dante Vandeven direkt im Anschluss in der Endzone für eine Safety gesackt. Das letzte Quarter brachte eine weitere Interception von Washington und kurz vor Schluss die dritte durch Nijaz Hamulic, doch am Spielstand änderte sich nichts mehr. Weitere Wermutstropfen für Surge waren neben dem Endstand von 44:3 die Verletzungen von Benji Barnes und Kicker Jonata Loria.
The ninth game of the 2022 ELF season brought the ninth defeat for Stuttgart Surge and a painful one at that.
The game already started in the worst way possible, as the Raiders were able to convert the kickoff into a touchdown to immediately take a 7-0 lead. After Stuttgart's first drive ended in a punt, the Raiders thought they had a second touchdown thanks to a pass to Adrian Platzgummer, but a review said otherwise. They didn't have to wait for long though and eventually went up 14-0 courtesy of a Lukas Haslwanter run and the following extra point. A good scramble by Dante Vandeven gained some yards for Stuttgart, but no points. Haslwanter showed how it's done and scored his second touchdown of the day, bringing the first quarter to an end at 21-0. The second quarter continued just like the first ended and the Raiders scored two more runs to pull away to a 35-0 lead. The Surge meanwhile gathered lots of penalties and showed their first real sign of life with an interception by Malcolm Washington, which he carried into the Raiders end zone. Unfortunately, the refs nullified the score and the Tyroleans were able to continue with their posession and scored again to make it 42-0. The next Stuttgart drive was the best of the day and new signing Philéas Pasqualini nearly made it into the endzone. As there were only two seconds left on the clock before halftime, Surge decided to take the three points thanks to a Jonata Loria field goal to make it 42-3 at the break.
Both teams had to pay tribute to the hot summer weather in the second half and couldn't keep up with the pace before the interval. The Surge forced the Raiders off the field on fourth down, but immediately after that, Dante Vandeven was sacked in the end zone for a safety. The final quarter saw no change in score but another Malcolm Washington interception and a third one through Nijaz Hamulic just before the final whistle. Being defeated 44-3 wasn't the only bitter pill Surge had to swallow, as Benji Barnes and kicker Jonata Loria were also severely injured.
