In Woche sieben der European League of Football ging es für Stuttgart Surge in die Schweiz. Dort traf man in der Lidl Arena in Wil auf die Helvetic Guards. Bei der 13:31-Niederlage verlor die Surge zum ersten Mal in dieser Saison ein Spiel und steht nun bei fünf Siegen und einer Niederlage.
Im ersten Viertel ging für beide Teams noch nicht viel. Nur den Helvetic Guards gelang ein Field Goal zum 0:3. Auch im zweiten Viertel erzielten die Guards zu Beginn ein Field Goal. Darauf antwortete die Offense der Surge mit einem Touchdown-Pass auf Wide Receiver Bryce Nunnelly. Der anschließende Extra Punkt-Versuch wurde allerdings von den Guards geblockt und in die Endzone der Surge zurückgetragen. Dadurch gingen die Guards mit 6:8 in Führung. Mit dem nächsten Angriff erzielte die Offense der Guards dann ihren ersten Touchdown durch einen Lauf von Running Back Silas Nacita zum 6:15. Kurz vor Ende der ersten Halbzeit verkürzte die Surge durch einen Touchdown-Pass auf Wide Receiver Darrell Stewart zum 13:15-Halbzeitstand.
Zu Beginn des dritten Viertels bekamen die Stuttgarter zwar den Ball, verloren diesen aber durch einen Fumble von Quarterback Jan Weinreich. Daraufhin schossen die Guards ein weiteres Field Goal zum 13:18. Im Verlauf der zweiten Halbzeit gelangen der Offense der Surge keine weiteren Punkte, was auch daran lag, dass die Defense der Guards vier Pässe von Weinreich abfangen konnte. Die weiteren Punkte für die Guards erzielte der Cornerback Maceo Beard mit einem Pick-Six und der Quarterback Tristan Noble mit einem Touchdown-Lauf zum 13:31-Endstand.
Damit konnte Jordan Neuman, der Head Coach der Surge, nicht zufrieden sein: "Es war heute offensichtlich ein schlechter Tag und wir haben noch Arbeit vor uns. Die Guards waren bereit zu spielen, sie waren großartig. Ich erwarte, dass dieses Spiel uns wachrütteln wird.“
Mit der Auswärtsniederlage verlor die Surge also zum ersten Mal in dieser Saison. Trotzdem führen die Stuttgarter die Central Conference der European League of Football nach wie vor an.
In week seven of the European League of Football Stuttgart Surge went to Switzerland. There they faced the Helvetic Guards at the Lidl Arena in Wil. In the 13:31 defeat, the Surge lost a game for the first time this season and now stand at five wins and one loss.
Not much happened in the first quarter for both teams. Only the Helvetic Guards managed a field goal to make it 0:3. The Guards also scored a field goal at the beginning of the second quarter. The Surge offense responded with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Bryce Nunnelly. However, the ensuing extra point attempt was blocked by the Guards and carried back into the Surge end zone. That gave the Guards a 6:8 lead. The Guards offense then scored their first touchdown on the next drive with a run by running back Silas Nacita to make it 6:15. Just before the end of the first half, the Surge cut it to 13:15 at halftime with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Darrell Stewart.
At the beginning of the third quarter, the Stuttgart offense got the ball, but lost it due to a fumble by quarterback Jan Weinreich. The Guards then kicked another field goal to make it 13:18. The Surge offense did not score any more points during the second half, which was also due to the Guards' defense intercepting four passes from Weinreich. The other points for the Guards were scored by cornerback Maceo Beard with a pick-six and quarterback Tristan Noble with a touchdown run for the final 13:31.
Jordan Neuman, the Surge's head coach, was not satisfied with that: “It was obviously a bad day today and we have some work to do. The Guards came in ready to play, they were great. My expectation is that this game is going to wake us up.”
So, with the away defeat, the Surge lost for the first time this season. Nevertheless, Stuttgart still leads the Central Conference of the European League of Football.
