Die Defense von Stuttgart Surge erhält den nächsten Neuzugang. Der 27-Jährige US-Amerikaner Malcolm Washington wird in der kommenden Saison in Stuttgart spielen.
Der 1,87m große und 86kg schwere Malcolm stammt ursprünglich aus Houston, Texas. Dort ging er auf die Alief Elsik High School und spielte nicht nur Football, sondern auch Baseball und war zusätzlich im Leichtathletikteam. Auf dem Footballfeld wurde er zunächst in der Offense als Receiver eingesetzt, bevor er am College den Wechsel zum Defensive Back vollzog. Zudem ist er bei Returns eine wertvolle Waffe. 2014 und 2015 spielte er an der Fresno State University in Kalifornien und konnte in den zwei Jahren insgesamt 45 Tackles und sieben abgewehrte Pässe für sich verbuchen.
Im folgenden Jahr wechselte er an die University of Northern Iowa. Dort konnte er in seiner ersten Saison verletzungsbedingt nur acht Spiele absolvieren, in denen er jedoch mit 28 Tackles und vier Interceptions zu überzeugen wusste. 2017 erreichte er in seinem letzten Jahr am College satte 63 Tackles, ein Tackle for Loss und zwei Interceptions. Ein Jahr später durfte er bei einem Mini-Camp der Arizona Cardinals teilnehmen, konnte sich jedoch nicht im Team etablieren.
Malcolm wechselte für die Saison 2019 in die German Football League zu den Allgäu Comets und war sofort einer der besten Verteidiger der Liga. Nach 14 Spielen standen 32 Tackles, 20 abgewehrte Pässe (Ligabestwert) und 10 Interceptions (Ligabestwert) zu Buche. Zusätzlich erzielte er 764 Yards bei Returns und erreichte insgesamt 6 Touchdowns. Diese Leistungen weckten das Interesse der Edmonton Eskimos (mittlerweile Edmonton Elks) aus der Canadian Football League. Die Saison 2020 wurde jedoch abgesagt, sodass er kein Spiel für die Eskimos absolvierte. Nun kommt Malcolm wieder zurück nach Deutschland und will für Stuttgart Surge auf Titeljagd gehen.

The 6’2“ tall and 190lbs heavy Malcolm grew up in Houston, Texas. There he went to Alief Elsik High School and not only played football, but also participated in Baseball and Track. At first he played on the offense as a receiver before switching to defensive back in college. In addition to that, he is known as a return specialist. In 2014 and 2015 he played for Fresno State in California and racked up 45 tackles and 7 pass break ups.
He transferred to the University of Northern Iowa the following year, where he only played eight games during his first season due to injuries. However, in those eight games he had 28 tackles and 4 interceptions. In his last college year in 2017 he amassed a whopping 63 tackles, one tackle for loss and two interceptions. One year later he participated in an Arizona Cardinals mini-camp, but couldn’t gain a spot on the roster.

The 2020 season was unfortunately cancelled and Malcolm didn’t play a game for the CFL outfit. Now he’s coming back to Germany and wants to win titles with Stuttgart Surge.
