Das nächste Re-Signing bindet ein Talent aus der Region für ein weiteres Jahr an Stuttgart Surge. Cornerback Julian Jakob wird seine Entwicklung nahe der Heimat fortsetzen und in der Saison 2022 wieder für die Surge Defense auflaufen.
„Ich kehre für ein weiteres Jahr zu Stuttgart Surge zurück, da ich von einem sehr guten Coaching Staff überzeugt bin. Von Lelan Brickus und Marvin Washington kann ich noch sehr viel lernen. Es ist auch wirklich praktisch, dass Stuttgart nicht weit von meiner Heimat entfernt ist. Außerdem habe ich in Julian Ludwig-Mayorga hier so etwas wie einen großen Bruder, von dem ich mir vieles abgeschaut habe und ohne den ich heute nicht da wäre, wo ich bin. Ohne ihn aufs Spielfeld zu gehen, würde sich einfach falsch anfühlen,” so Julian über die Gründe seiner Rückkehr.
Bereits im Alter von fünf Jahren begann der gebürtige Ludwigsburger mit dem Sport, genauer gesagt mit Fußball. Ein schwerer Schienbeinbruch brachte ihn im Alter von 15 Jahren jedoch davon ab, da ihm die Verletzungsgefahr für seine Beine zu groß war. Der anschließende Wechsel zum Kontaktsport American Football klingt zunächst etwas komisch, man muss jedoch bedenken, dass er als Cornerback nicht ständig mitten im Geschehen ist. 2016 begann er schließlich in seinem Heimatort Ludwigsburg bei den Bulldogs.
2017 folgte der Wechsel zu den Pattonville Generals aus Kornwestheim, für die der 22-Jährige zwei Jahre spielte, ehe er ab der Saison 2019 für die Stuttgart Scorpions an den Start ging. Wiederum zwei Jahre später folgte der Wechsel zu Stuttgart Surge in die ELF, für die er jetzt also ein weiteres Jahr dranhängt. In all den Jahren spielte er dabei stets neben seinem guten Freund Julian Ludwig-Mayorga und stellte mit ihm ein starkes Duo im defensive Backfield. Auch dieses Jahr verteidigen beide wieder gemeinsam auf dem Platz. Seine Ziele im Football formuliert der Cornerback mit 1, 82m und 78 kg wie folgt: „Ich möchte im American Football generell mindestens bis in die CFL kommen. Dieses Jahr ist aber zunächst das Ziel, mit Stuttgart Surge die Championship zu gewinnen.”
The next re-signing ties a local talent to Stuttgart Surge for another year. Cornerback Julian Jakob will continue his development near to his home and will play for the Surge defense again in 2022.
"I'm coming back to Stuttgart Surge for another year because I'm convinced by a really good coaching staff. I can learn a lot from Lelan Brickus and Marvin Washington. It’s also really convenient that Stuttgart is not far away from my hometown. Moreover, I have something like a big brother here in Julian Ludwig-Mayorga, from whom I have learned so much. Without him I wouldn't be where I am now and stepping onto the field without him would just feel plain out wrong," Julian says about his reasons to return.
The Ludwigsburg-native started at the early age of five with sports, soccer to be precise. However, a severely fractured tibia made him stop playing soccer because the risk of further injury to his legs was too great. The following switch to the contact sport of American football sounds confusing at first, but keep in mind that as a cornerback he's not always in the middle of the action. In 2016, he consequently he started to play in his hometown of Ludwigsburg for the Bulldogs.
In 2017, he joined the Pattonville Generals out of Kornwestheim, where the 22-year-old played for two years before making the move to the Stuttgart Scorpions. Another two years later, he made the switch to the ELF outfit Stuttgart Surge for whom he now continues to play. In all those years he played alongside his good friend Julian Ludwig-Mayorga and the two fromed a strong duo in the defensive backfield. This year they continue to play defense together. The 6'0", 172 lbs cornerback describes his goals in football as follows: "In my American football career I generally want to reach at least the CFL, but first of all this year's goal is to win the Championship together with Stuttgart Surge."
