Nach dem Sieg im Wild Card-Game gegen die Panthers Wroclaw stand für die Surge nun das Halbfinale in der European League of Football an. Dabei waren die Surge zu Gast bei den Vienna Vikings, dem amtierenden Champion der ELF. In einem spannenden Spiel gelang der Surge ein 40:33-Sieg. Damit stehen die Stuttgarter im Championship Game der ELF.
Zu Beginn der ersten Halbzeit bekam die Offense der Stuttgart Surge den Ball. Im ersten Drive erzielte die Surge direkt einen Touchdown durch einen weiten Pass auf Wide Receiver Louis Geyer. Gegen Ende des ersten Viertels wurde die Offense der Surge erst in der Redzone durch eine geworfene Interception von Quarterback Reilly Hennessey gestoppt. Durch diesen Ballgewinn erzielten die Vikings ein Field Goal zum 7:3. Im zweiten Viertel erzielte Hennessey einen Touchdown für die Surge durch einen Quarterback-Sneak zur 14:3-Führung. Kurz vor Ende der ersten Halbzeit verkürzten die Vikings durch einen Touchdown Pass von Quarterback Chris Helbig auf Wide Receiver Weston Carr zum 14:10.
Am Anfang der zweiten Halbzeit trugen die Vikings den Ball bis kurz vor die Endzone der Surge. Dort fumbleden sie allerdings den Ball und Linebacker Japhet Mbala trug den Ball für einen Touchdown der Surge in die Endzone der Vikings. Mit dem nächsten Drive verkürzten die Vikings allerdings durch einen Touchdown durch Wide Receiver Johannes Schütz zum Zwischenstand von 20:17. Dann ging es Schlag auf Schlag. Auf einen Touchdown von Wide Receiver Darrell Stewart für die Surge folgte ein Touchdown-Pass der Vikings auf Tight End Florian Bierbaumer. Darauf antwortete die Surge mit einem Touchdown durch Wide Receiver Ari Minton zum 32:24. Im vierten Viertel verkürzten die Vikings zunächst durch ein Field Goal, bevor sie dann durch einen weiteren Touchdown-Pass auf Schütz zum ersten Mal in Führung gingen. Eine Two-Point-Conversion konnte die Defense der Surge stoppen. Damit lag die Surge Minuten vor dem Ende mit 32:33 zurück. Mit einem langen Drive konnte die Surge zum Ende des Spiels allerdings die Führung durch einen Touchdown-Pass auf Stewart und einer gelungenen Two-Point-Conversion wieder übernehmen. Die Vikings bekamen zwar noch mal den Ball, doch die Surge-Defense erzwang einen Fumble. Damit gewann die Surge das Halbfinale dramatisch mit 40:33.
Durch den Sieg steht die Surge nun erstmals im Championship Game der ELF. Dort warten entweder die Frankfurt Galaxy oder die Rhein Fire.
After the victory in the Wild Card Game against the Panthers Wroclaw, the Surge now faced the semi-finals in the European League of Football. The Surge were guests of the Vienna Vikings, the reigning champions of the ELF. In an exciting game the Surge managed a 40:33 victory. The Stuttgart team is now in the Championship Game of the ELF.
At the beginning of the first half, the Stuttgart Surge offense got the ball. In the first drive, the Surge scored a touchdown directly on a long pass to wide receiver Louis Geyer. Towards the end of the first quarter, the Surge offense was only stopped in the redzone by a thrown interception by quarterback Reilly Hennessey. That gain gave the Vikings a field goal to make it 7:3. In the second quarter, Hennessey scored a touchdown for the Surge on a quarterback sneak for a 14:3 lead. Just before the end of the first half, the Vikings cut it to 14:10 on a touchdown pass from quarterback Chris Helbig to wide receiver Weston Carr.
Early in the second half, the Vikings carried the ball to just outside the Surge end zone. However, they fumbled the ball there and linebacker Japhet Mbala carried the ball into the Vikings' end zone for a Surge touchdown. On the next drive, however, the Vikings scored a touchdown by wide receiver Johannes Schütz to cut the deficit to 20:17. Then it was blow for blow. A touchdown by wide receiver Darrell Stewart for the Surge was followed by a touchdown pass from the Vikings to tight end Florian Bierbaumer. The Surge answered with a touchdown by wide receiver Ari Minton to make it 32:24. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings first cut it short with a field goal before taking their first lead with another touchdown pass to Schütz. A two-point conversion was stopped by the Surge's defense. That left the Surge trailing 32:33 with minutes to go. However, with a long drive to end the game, the Surge regained the lead with a touchdown pass to Stewart and a successful two-point conversion. The Vikings got the ball again, but the Surge defense forced a fumble. That gave the Surge a dramatic 40:33 win in the semifinals.
The win puts the Surge in the Championship Game of the ELF for the first time. There either the Frankfurt Galaxy or the Rhein Fire are waiting.
