Die Niederlagenserie von Stuttgart Surge reißt auch gegen die Barcelona Dragons nicht ab, die ihrerseits mit dem klaren Sieg in die Playoffs einziehen. Der Kick-off konnte dieses Mal gut verteidigt werden, jedoch anschließend nicht das Dragons-Duo Quarterback Zach Edwards und Receiver Kyle Sweet, die die Dragons in Führung brachten. 7:0. Ein verpasstes Field Goal hätte drei weitere Punkte für die Hausherren gebracht, ein weiterer Touchdown ließ den Miss jedoch schnell in Vergessenheit geraten. 14:0. Durch ein Fumble beim anschließenden Return kamen die Dragons direkt wieder in Ballbesitz, den Sweet zu seinem zweiten Touchdown verwerten konnte. 21:0. Die Stuttgarter hatten sich für das Spiel neue Varianten überlegt und so fing Quarterback Dante Vandeven einen Pass von Janis Kaiser, doch eine Strafe machte den Raumgewinn zunichte. Der nächste Pass endete in einer Interception und es folgte das bekannte Muster: Edwards auf Sweet. 28:0. Nachdem Barcelonas Receiver bisher vier Touchdowns erzielen konnten, waren nun die Runningbacks an der Reihe. 35:0. All das passierte im ersten Viertel. Im zweiten Viertel ging es ähnlich weiter. Quarterback Dante Vandeven wurde mehrfach gesackt, verlor dabei mehrmals den Ball und die Dragons waren wieder an der Reihe. In der Defense wurden Tackles gemisst und Wide Receiver liefen sich frei. Mit einem deprimierenden Halbzeitstand von 56:0 ging es in der Abendsonne von Reus in die Kabinen.
Die Dragons ließen zu Beginn der zweiten Halbzeit nicht nach und konnten sofort sechs Punkte nachlegen, jedoch ging der Extrapunkt daneben. Der einzige Lichtblick der Stuttgarter Offense drehte in Halbzeit zwei jedoch auf, denn Runningback Philéas Pasqualini konnte ein ums andere Mal die Offensive Line der Dragons durchdringen und ins Backfield vorstoßen, auch dank guter Blocks von Sanka Moukouri. Nachdem viele Backups bei Barcelona auf dem Feld waren, war es schließlich auch Pasqualini, der den ersten Stuttgarter Touchdown erlaufen konnte und auch die Two-Point-Conversion über die Linie drückte. Die zweite Halbzeit wurde somit effektiv mit 6:8 gewonnen, was jedoch kein Trost für das Endergebnis von 62:8 ist.
The Stuttgart Surge losing streak continues against the playoff-bound Barcelona Dragons. This time, the kick-off was defended pretty well, but the Surge had no answer for the Dragons duo of quarterback Zach Edwards and receiver Kyle Sweet, who put Barcelona ahead 7-0. A missed field goal would have given the hosts three more points, but the miss was quickly forgotten thanks to another touchdown. 14-0. A fumble on the ensuing return gave the posession back to the Dragons and Sweet another touchdown. 21-0. Stuttgart had some surprising plays ready for the game and quarterback Dante Vandeven caught a pass from Janis Kaiser, but a penalty nullified the yards gained. The next pass ended up as an interception and the familiar sight of the Edwards-Sweet connection. 28-0. After Barcelona's receivers scored four touchdowns, it was now the turn of the running backs. 35-0. All this happened in the first quarter alone. The second quarter was no difference. Quarterback Dante Vandeven was sacked multiple times, lost hold of the ball multiple times and the Dragons regained posession. Tackles were missed on the defensive side and wide receivers weren't covered. As the evening sun was setting in Reus, Surge was down with a depressing score of 56-0 at halftime.
The Dragons didn't let up at the start of the second half and quickly scored six more points, but missed the extra point. The one bright spot in Stuttgart's offense turned up the heat in the second half though. Running back Philéas Pasqualini was able to penetrate the Dragon's offensive line time and time again and advance into the backfield, also thanks to some great blocks from Sanka Moukouri. Many backups were now playing for the Dragons and it was Pasuqalini, who eventually scored the first touchdown for Surge and also brought the following two-point conversion home. The second half was therefore effectively won 6-8, but that is no consolation whatsoever for the final score of 62-8.
