Am gestrigen Mittwoch endete um 21 Uhr die offizielle Frist der European League of Football für die Registrierung von Neuzugängen. Stuttgart Surge konnte vor Ablauf nochmal einen absoluten Hochkaräter verpflichten, denn mit Philéas Pasqualini kommt ein Runningback, der es in der Saison 2021 ins All-Star-Team der Liga schaffte.
Philéas stammt aus dem französischen Cannes und wäre vor seiner Karriere im American Football fast Olympionike im Taekwondo geworden. Vor den Spielen 2012 war er im Kader der französischen Nationalmannschaft, hörte jedoch aus persönlichen Gründen auf und wechselte die Sportart. Bei den Iron Mask de Cannes begann er als Runningback und legte einen steilen Aufstieg hin. Bereits ein Jahr später wurde er in die französische U19-Auswahl berufen und repräsentierte sein Land bei den Weltmeisterschaften in Kuwait. 2015 wechselte er ans kanadische College Cégep de Chicoutimi und ein Jahr später an die renommierte McGill University in Montréal, wo er bis 2017 blieb.
2018 ging er zurück in seine Heimatstadt und auch zurück zu den Iron Mask de Cannes, wo er nach eigener Aussage seinen besten sportlichen Moment im Football erlebte. Im Spiel gegen die ungeschlagenen Gones de Lyon kam er kurz vor Schluss als Defensive End aufs Feld, da er in der zweiten Liga für den Klub auch auf der defensiven Seite auflief. Philéas sackte den Quarterback und eroberte das daraus resultierende Fumble selbst zurück, wodurch sein Team das Spiel gewann. Während der Saison 2020 wollte der 1,80 m große und 106 kg schwere Runningback dann für den amtierenden Champion Black Panthers de Thonon auflaufen, jedoch wurde die Saison abgesagt. Zur ersten Saison der ELF lief er dann für die Panthers Wroclaw auf und erzielte in elf Spielen 734 Rushing Yards und sechs Touchdowns. Außerdem fing er 11 Pässe für 145 Yards und einen Touchdown, was insgesamt für die Wahl ins All-Star-Team reichte. Nach dem fünften Spieltag der Saison 2022 wurde er von den Panthers released und soll nun also bei Surge die Doppelspitze mit Jalen Conwell bilden.
The official deadline of the European League of Football for the registration of new signings ended yesterday at 9 pm. Stuttgart Surge was able to snatch a top-class player before the end of the deadline, as running back Philéas Pasqualini, who made the league's All-Star team in the 2021 season, joins the team.
Philéas hails from Cannes, France, and almost became an Olympian in taekwondo before his career in American Football. He returned to his hometown in 2018 to play for the Iron Mask de Cannes again and had his best sporting moment in football according to his account. Playing against the undefeated Gones de Lyon, he came onto the field as a defensive end for the game's last play, as he also played for the defensive side in the second division. Philéas sacked the quarterback and recovered the resulting fumble himself to end the game and seal the win for his team. The 5'11" and 233 lbs running back planned to play for the reigning champion Black Panthers de Thonon in 2020, but the season was cancelled. For the inaugural season of the ELF, he lined up for the Panthers Wroclaw and racked up 734 rushing yards and six touchdowns in eleven games. He also caught 11 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown warranting a spot on the league's All-Star team. He was released by the Panthers after game five of the 2022 season and is now said to be one part of the Surge's two-headed rushing attack, with Jalen Conwell being the other.
