Ein weiterer Spieler des letztjährigen Rosters bleibt beim Team, denn Runningback Bryan Yankson wird auch in der Saison 2022 weiterhin neben all seinen Kumpels auflaufen.
„Letztes Jahr wollte ich mein Game auf das nächste Level anheben und mich mit den Besten aus Europa messen. Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass das in der ELF so sein wird und wollte deshalb persönlich diesen Weg gehen, um ganz oben dabei zu sein, mitzuspielen und alles rauszuholen, was in mir steckt. Ich habe viele Freunde bei Surge und ich liebe es einfach, mit meinen Kumpels zusammenzuspielen, denn die Jungs sind meine Family,“ erklärt Bryan.
Begonnen hat der heute 26-Jährige Stuttgarter mit ghanaischen Wurzeln zunächst im Basketball bei der BG Remseck, für die er sechs Jahre lang Landesliga und Oberliga spielte. Als ihm das nicht mehr so viel Spaß machte, ging er 2014 ins Training der Stuttgart Scorpions und blieb beim American Football. Zunächst ging er ein Jahr für die U19 an den Start, ehe 2015 der Wechsel ins Herrenteam folgte. Dort konnte er in den Jahren bis zur Pandemie viele Erfahrungen sammeln. So spielte er mehrfach mit dem Team in den Playoffs, musste aber auch ein Mal die Relegation überstehen.
Bei den Scorpions war der 1,73 m große und 88 kg schwere Runningback aber nicht nur Spieler, sondern trainierte auch die U16. Die Arbeit mit der Jugend macht ihm viel Spaß und er schaut gerne zu, wie sich der Footballnachwuchs in Deutschland und Europa entwickelt. Letztes Jahr folgte der Wechsel zu Stuttgart Surge und gleich das erste Spiel auswärts in Barcelona, war für ihn ein Highlight in seiner Karriere. Der Flug ins Ausland, das erste Mal mit dem eigenen Namen auf dem Trikot aufzulaufen, der knappe Sieg, die ganze Experience war etwas Besonderes für ihn.
Auch dieses Jahr verspricht er, wieder alles für Stuttgart Surge zu geben und sagt: „Mein Ziel ist es, bei jedem Score und jedem Erfolg beteiligt zu sein, egal ob ich selbst score, blocke oder in den Special Teams meinen Aufgaben erledige. Wenn es sein muss, dann bringe ich auch der Defense in ihrer Pause das Wasser, damit meine Mitspieler 100% geben können und sich auf ihre Aufgaben konzentrieren können. Egal was es im Endeffekt ist, ich will einfach dazu beitragen, dass wir erfolgreich sind.“

„Last year I wanted to elevate my game to the next level and compete with the best Europe has to offer. I felt that the ELF was the place to be, which is why I decided to go down this route to be at the top of the game, to be a part of it and to extract the maximum out of my abilities. I have so many friends here at Surge and I love to share the gridiron with them because these guys are my family“, Brian explains.
The 26-year old Stuttgart native with Ghanaian roots started out playing Basketball for BG Remseck at first, for whom he played for six years. As soon as he stopped enjoying it he made the switch to American football in 2014 and stayed with the sport after the first practice with the Stuttgart Scorpons. He first played for the clubs u19 youth level before making the jump to the senior team in 2015, where he gained lots of experience in the years leading up to the pandemic. With the team, he reached the playoffs multiple times, but also had to fight a relegation battle.
The 5’8“ and 194 lbs running back was not only a player, but also coached the club’s u16 youth team. He likes working with the younger players as he enjoys to watch their development. Last year he made the switch to Stuttgart Surge and the first game of the season away at Barcelona was immediately one of his favorite football moments. The flight abroad, having his name on the jersey for the first time, the narrow victory, just the whole experience itself was something special.
He continues his commitment to Stuttgart Surge for this year and promises to give everything: „My goal is to be involved with every score and success, whether I score myself, make a block or do my job with the special teams. If necessary, I hand water bottles to my teammates on defense during their break, so they can focus on their tasks and give 100 %. I just want to contribute to the team being successful, no matter how.“
