Nach dem 40:26-Heimsieg gegen die Milano Seamen am vergangen Sonntag, steht nun bereits das nächste Heimspiel an. Am Sonntag, dem 25. Juni um 13 Uhr, ist Kickoff für das Duell gegen die Raiders Tirol aus Innsbruck.
Wie die Stuttgart Surge sind auch die Raiders Tirol in dieser Saison noch ungeschlagen. Allerdings haben die Raiders ein Spiel mehr gespielt und sind dadurch mit drei Siegen aus drei Spielen auf dem ersten Platz in der Central Conference der ELF. Den zweiten Platz belegt die Surge mit zwei Siegen aus zwei Spielen. Am Sonntag entscheidet sich also, welches Team die erste Saisonniederlage einstecken muss, und welches Team am Ende des Spieltages an der Spitze der Central Conference stehen wird.
Die Raiders Tirol gibt es bereits seit 1992. In der ELF spielen sie aber erst seit der Saison 2022. Zuvor spielten sie in der Austrian Football League, wo sie acht Mal österreichischer Meister wurden. In ihrer ersten Saison in der ELF erreichten die Raiders direkt das Halbfinale der Playoffs, wo sie den Hamburg Sea Devils mit 7:19 unterlagen. Auch in dieser Saison sind die Tiroler ein Favorit auf den Titel. Der kanadische Quarterback der Raiders, Christian Strong, warf in dieser Saison bereits für 951 Yards und neun Touchdowns. Seine Lieblingsanspielstation ist der US-Amerikaner Jarvis McClam, der bisher für 431 Yards und vier Touchdowns fing. Das Duo spielte bereits mehrere Jahre auf dem College und bei anderen Teams zusammen. Ein weiterer Schlüsselspieler der Raiders ist Runningback Sandro Platzgummer, der nach zwei Jahren in der NFL bei den New York Giants wieder zu den Raiders zurückgekehrt ist. Angeführt wird das Team von Head Coach Kevin Herron. Der US-Amerikaner ist bereits seit 1999 in Deutschland und Österreich im Football tätig und seit 2019 der Head Coach der Raiders.
Das Spiel am Sonntag gegen die Tirol Raiders wird also zu einem echten Härtetest für die Stuttgart Surge und entscheidet darüber, wer nach dem Spieltag an der Spitze in der Central Conference stehen wird.
