Der unerwartete Abgang von Tight End David Meza öffnete letzte Woche einen Platz für einen neuen US-Importspieler. Dieser wird zukünftig von Runningback/Wide Receiver Jalen Conwell belegt, der zuvor für die Istanbul Rams auflief und nun Bosporus gegen Bopser eintauscht.
Der 1,77 m große und 80 kg schwere Conwell stammt aus Hueytown, Alabama und kann auf mehreren Positionen variabel eingesetzt werden. Bei einem regionalen Combine für die Canadian Football League lief er im 40-Yard Dash eine inoffizielle Zeit von 4,26 Sekunden. Zum Vergleich: die schnellste Zeit beim Combine in Stuttgart dieses Jahr waren 4,59 Sekunden. Jalen ist nicht nur als Runningback, sondern auch als Wide Receiver und Returner im Einsatz und soll der Offensive von Stuttgart Surge, die sich im letzten Spiel gegen die Leipzig Kings schon stark verbessert zeigte, weitere neue Impulse und Möglichkeiten geben.
Jalen zeigte bereits an der High School, warum er ein außergewöhnlicher Athlet ist und überzeugte dabei nicht nur im American Football, sondern auch in der Leichtathletik. Während seiner Zeit an der Bessemer Academy von 2014 bis 2017 gewann er im Sprint über die 100 m die Alabama AISA State Championships und schaffte es im Football ins High School All-State Second Team. Anschließend sagte er zunächst der Bethel University zu, entschied sich dann jedoch für ein Junior College, wo seine Karriere früh durch Probleme mit der Spielberechtigung unterbrochen wurde. Deshalb ging er nach Mexiko zu den Fundidores de Monterrey und wurde dort nicht nur Rookie of the Year, sondern auch der Rushing Leader der gesamten Liga. 2021 wechselte er in die Ukraine zu den Lviv Lions und überzeugte auch dort mit 566 Yards, 12 Touchdowns und drei Return Touchdowns in nur acht Spielen. Nach seinem kurzen Abenteuer in der Türkei, wo er nur in drei Spielen zum Einsatz kam, schließt er sich nun also Stuttgart Surge an und hofft, hier für Furore zu sorgen.
Last week's unexpected departure of tight end David Meza opened a spot for a new US import player. That spot is now occupied by runningback/wide receiver Jalen Conwell, who previously played for the Istanbul Rams and is trading in Bosporus for Bopser.
The 5'10" tall and 177 lbs heavy Conwell hails from Hueytown, Alabama and can play a variety of positions. At a regional combine for the Canadian Football League he reached an unofficial time of 4.26 seconds in the 40-yard dash. For comparison, the fastest time at the combine in Stuttgart this year was 4.59 seconds. Jalen is expected to play snaps not only at running back, but also at wide receiver and in the return game. The Stuttgart Surge offense, already showing improvements in the last game against the Leipzig Kings, hopes to open up new possibilities with his signing.
Jalen proved already during his time in the high school that he is an exceptional athlete, not only in American Football but also in track and fields.
