Der erste Offensive Lineman von Stuttgart Surge für die Saison 2023 der European League of Football steht fest: Luca Jokiel, 2,04 m groß und 145 kg schwer, wird in der kommenden Saison im GAZI-Stadion auf der Waldau spielen.
Statement Luca Jokiel: „Zuerst möchte ich erwähnen, dass ich den Heidelberg Hunters sehr dankbar bin, wie weit sie mich gebracht haben und wie sie mich dabei unterstützt haben. Ich bin wirklich stolz, ein Hunter gewesen zu sein. Nun freue ich mich jedoch darauf, meine Zukunft mit Stuttgart Surge zu gestalten. GO SURGE!”
Von 2015 an spielte der gebürtige Heidelberger für die Hunters aus seiner Heimatstadt. Mit diesen wurde er 2021 Meister der Landesliga und konnte 2022 mit dem Team als Meister der Oberliga den Durchmarsch in die Regionalliga schaffen. Dieses Jahr wurde er dann zum International Combine der NFL nach London eingeladen. Über den International Combine schafften bereits die Stuttgarter Jakob Johnson und Marcel Dabo den Sprung in die NFL. Jokiel war der einzige deutsche Spieler, der nicht aus der German Football League oder European League of Football für den International Combine 2022 ausgewählt wurde.
Der Elektrotechniker ist auch im neuen Coaching Staff der Stuttgarter kein unbeschriebenes Blatt: In den letzten zwei Jahren Spielte er unter Daniel McCray, damals noch Head Coach der Heidelberg Hunters, jetzt Linebacker Coach bei Stuttgart Surge.
Stuttgart Surge has signed the first offensive lineman for the 2023 season of the European League of Football: Luca Jokiel, 6′8″tall and 320 lbs heavy will play at the GAZI Stadium next season.

From 2015 on, the native of Heidelberg played for the Hunters from his hometown. With them, he became champion of the Landesliga (5th tier) in 2021 and this year in 2022 was able to make it through to the Regionalliga (3rd tier) as champion of the Oberliga (4th tier). Also this year, he was invited to the NFL International Combine in London. Jakob Johnson and Marcel Dabo from Stuttgart had already made it to the NFL via the International Combine. Jokiel was the only German player not selected from the German Football League or European League of Football for the 2022 International Combine.
The electrical engineer is also no stranger to the Stuttgart Surge's new coaching staff: in the last two years he played under Daniel McCray, then head coach of the Heidelberg Hunters, now linebacker coach at Stuttgart Surge.
