Das nächste Signing für die Offensive Line ist da. Nathan Kalemba wird in der Saison 2022 für Stuttgart Surge spielen, Quarterback Randy Schroeder beschützen und den Runningbacks den Weg freiblocken.
Nathan zum Signing: "Ich habe mich für Stuttgart Surge entschieden, weil Stuttgart meine Heimatstadt ist und es eine Freude und Ehre für mich ist ein Teil von Surge zu sein. Mein Ziel für diese Saison ist, dass wir der Liga zeigen, dass Stuttgart tortz der starken Gruppe keine abgeschriebene Mannschaft ist. Ich persönlich möchte die bestmögliche Saison spielen und versuchen, alles auf dem Feld zu lassen."
Das Abenteuer American Football begann für den 1,88 m großen und 154 kg schweren Nathan dank seines Kumpels Ruben Pein, der 2021 für Surge als Runningback an den Start ging. Ruben hat ihn überredet, beim Training vorbeizuschauen und mitzumachen. Nathan sagt selbst, dass dieser Tag sein Leben verändert hat, denn er hat den Sport direkt für sich entdeckt und begann anschließend in der U17 der Fellbach Warriors. Nach nur einer Saison folgte der Wechsel zu den Stuttgart Scorpions. Hier feierte er einen seiner größten Erfolge, denn gemeinsam mit der U19-Mannschaft konnte er die Süddeutsche Meisterschaft gewinnen. Im Folgejahr stieß er nicht nur zum Herrenteam dazu, sondern konnte auch direkt die Playoffs der German Football League erreichen. Zur zweiten ELF-Saison folgt nun also der stadtinterne Wechsel von den Scorpions zu Surge.
Dabei war der 23-Jährige nicht von Beginn an in der Offensive Line unterwegs, sondern spielte in der Jugend zunächst hauptsächlich als Defensive Tackle. Hier konnte er stets überzeugen und profitiert heute von der Tatsache, seine Position und die direkte Gegenposition zu kennen. Auch in der Jugend half er jedoch schon ab und zu in der Offensive Line aus und vollzog letztes Jahr dann endgültig den Wechsel auf die Angriffsseite. Für die Saison 2022 hat er sich fest vorgenommen, alles zu geben und sich auf der O-Line Position zu festigen.

Nathan about his signing: “I’ve decided to play for Stuttgart Surge because this is my home town. I’m absolutely thrilled and honored to play for the Surge and to be a part of it. My goal for this year is to show the league, that despite our tough division you shouldn’t write us off! Personally I want to play the best season possible and leave everything out on the field.”
Nathan, standing at 6’2“ and 340 lbs, was convinced by his good friend Ruben Pein, who played running back for the Surge in 2021, to start with American football and therefore joined a practice session. According to Nathan, this day changed his life because he was immediately hooked to the sport and started out with the U17 youth team of the Fellbach Warriors. After only one season he made the switch to the Stuttgart Scorpions, where he celebrated one of his biggest achievements, becoming champion of Southern Germany together with his U19 teammates. For the next season he not only joined the senior team but instantly reached the playoffs of the German Football League. Now, for the second season of the ELF, he made the switch from Scorpions to Surge.
The 23-year old did not start out as an offensive lineman, but initially played mainly as a defensive tackle at youth level. He always played well and today reaps the benefits from knowing his actual position and his opposing position. Even though he sometimes helped out in the offensive line at youth level it was only last year where he finally made the switch to the offensive side of the ball. For the 2022 season, he is determined to give it his all and wants to establish himself and consolidate his position in the o-line.
