Er macht den nächsten Schritt in Richtung NFL: Der Surge Offensive Lineman Luca Jokiel wird am NFL Pro Day 2024 der Houston Christian University teilnehmen und dort vor Scouts der NFL sein Talent und sein Können unter Beweis stellen.
Bereits in den vergangenen zwei Jahren wurde Luca Jokiel zu den Combines des International Player Pathway Program (IPP) der NFL eingeladen. Mit diesem Programm scoutet die NFL talentierte American Football-Spieler außerhalb der Vereinigten Staaten und bietet einzelnen von ihnen einen Platz in einem der NFL-Teams an. Lokale Beispiele, die auf diesem Weg den Sprung in die NFL geschafft haben, sind der ehemalige Surge Cornerback Marcel Dabo sowie Surge Co-Owner Jakob Johnson. Darüber hinaus erlangen die Invitees bei den Combines wertvolle Erfahrungen und knüpfen viele Kontakte, wie Jokiel berichtet:
„Durch das NFL IPP konnte ich so viele tolle Menschen und Athleten aus der ganzen Welt kennenlernen und bin dafür sehr dankbar."
Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Einladung zum IPP-Combine 2022, da Jokiel zu dieser Zeit im baden-württembergischen Verbandsfootball unterwegs war: Er spielte mit den Heidelberg Hunters in den Ligen des AFCV BW und schaffte mehrere Aufstiege bis hin in die Regionalliga. Üblicherweise werden von den NFL-Scouts vor allem die höheren Spielklassen als Becken für Talente genutzt.
Für Luca Jokiel kommt es aber insbesondere auf zwei Dinge an, die den Erfolg ausmachen: der eigene Effort und das Team!
„Ich arbeite sehr fokussiert und strukturiert daran, mich zu verbessern und Arbeit und Sport unter einen Hut zu bringen. Taking the next step toward the NFL: Surge offensive lineman Luca Jokiel will participate in the NFL Pro Day 2024 at Houston Christian University, where he will showcase his talent and skills in front of NFL scouts.
Luca Jokiel has been invited to the NFL's International Player Pathway Program (IPP) Combine for the past two years. Through this program, the NFL scouts talented American football players outside of the United States and offers some of them a spot on an NFL team. Local examples of players who have made the leap to the NFL include former Surge cornerback Marcel Dabo and Surge co-owner Jakob Johnson. In addition, the invitees gain valuable experience at the Combine and make many contacts, Jokiel said:
"Through the NFL IPP, I've been able to meet so many great people and athletes from all over the world, and I'm very grateful for that.“
The invitation to the 2022 IPP Combine is especially notable as Jokiel was playing football for the Heidelberg Hunters in the AFCV BW leagues and made several promotions to the regional league. NFL scouts usually use the higher leagues as a talent pool.
But for Luca Jokiel, there are two things that make him successful: working hard and working with the team!
