Ein weiteres bekanntes Gesicht kehrt in der kommenden Saison zurück zu Stuttgart Surge. Linebacker Dennis Gratza bleibt auf der Waldau und wird für die Defense wieder alles in die Waagschale werfen.
Der gebürtige Karlsruher war zuerst im Fußball zuhause und spielte dort als Linksverteidiger, ehe er sich 2016 dem American Football zuwandte. Da er an der Hochschule Karlsruhe sein Bachelorstudium der Fahrzeugtechnologie absolvierte, schloss er sich folgerichtig den KIT SC Engineers an. Hier konnte er als Linebacker schnell Fuß fassen, erspielte sich einen Stammplatz im Team und sammelte Erfahrung in der Oberliga und Regionalliga Baden-Württemberg.
2020 folgte dann der Wechsel zu den Stuttgart Scorpions, für die er in der GFL spielen wollte, jedoch aufgrund der Absage der Saison kein einziges Spiel bestreiten konnte. Im anschließenden Jahr folgte er Coach Martin Hanselmann zu Stuttgart Surge und spielte erstmals auf europäischer Bühne. Hier konnte er mit starken Leistungen im Training und in den Spielen überzeugen, weshalb er für die Saison 2022 zurückkehrt.
Der 1,75 m große und 97 kg schwere Linebacker agiert weiterhin nicht nur auf dem Platz mit Köpfchen, denn seinem Bachelorstudium folgt ein Masterstudium. Zudem ist er ein ehrgeiziger Sportler und trainiert hart für seinen Erfolg. Für den letztjährigen Combine hat er sich etwa lange und intensiv vorbereitet. In der zweiten ELF-Saison will er sich nun weiter entwickeln und Mitspieler und Coaches gleichermaßen überzeugen.

The Karlsruhe native started out in soccer, where he played as a left back, before making the switch to American football in 2016. Due to his studies in the field of automotive engineering at the HKA (Hochschule Karlsruhe) it was only a logical move to join the KIT SC Engineers. He quickly found his feet, earned a place as a starter and was able to gain experience in the Oberliga and Regionalliga Baden-Württemberg (3rd an 4th tier of German football).
In 2020, he switched teams and intended to play for the Stuttgart Scorpions. However, due to the pandemic and resulting cancellation of the season, he couldn't play a single game. He followed coach Martin Hanselmann to the Stuttgart Surge in 2021 and played at the European level for the first time. His good performances in practice and games were convincing enough to secure a roster spot for the 2022 season.
The 5′ 9″ tall and 214 lbs heavy linebacker is continuing to be smart on the field as well as off the field, as his bachelor’s degree is followed by a master’s. He is an ambitious player and trains hard for his success, which can be seen in his extended and intensive practice before participating in last year's combine. For the second season of the ELF he wants to continue his development and convince colleagues and coaches alike.
