Stuttgart Surge kann eine Neuverpflichtung auf der Position des Fullback vermelden: León Helm wechselt für die kommende Saison 2024 von der Frankfurt Galaxy zur Stuttgart Surge. Das Coaching Staff um Jordan Neuman fokussiert sich bei dieser Verstärkung auf das Laufspiel der Stuttgarter Offense.
In den Saisons 2022 und 2023 spielte der Deutsche für die Frankfurt Galaxy und konnte dort durch herausragende Leistungen auf sich aufmerksam machen. In den insgesamt 23 Partien, die er für die Frankfurter absolvierte, prägte er das Laufspiel der Galaxy als Fullback und Runningback und konnte dabei 8 Touchdowns erzielen. Sowohl 2022 als auch 2023 listete ihn deshalb die European League of Football ins Second All Star-Team. Im Jahr zuvor konnte er sich einen Platz im All Star-Team der German Football League ergattern.
Dass die sportlichen Fähigkeiten von León Helm gefragt sind, hat sich bereits des Öfteren gezeigt: Während seiner Zeit bei den Saarland Hurricanes von 2006 bis 2021 wurde er in zahlreiche Auswahlmannschaften berufen, so zum Beispiel 2011 ins Team der baden-württembergischen U16-Landesauswahl sowie in den Jahren 2011 bis 2014 jeweils in das Team der RLP/Saar Mad Dogs. Auch auf Bundesebene spielt er seit Jahren für die deutsche Football-Nationalmannschaft, mit der er als Senior bei den World Games 2017 den 2. Platz erreichte. Als Spieler der Junioren-Nationalmannschaft erreichte er bei der U19-Europameisterschaft 2013 den 3. Platz und führte die Mannschaft 2014 bei der U19-Weltmeisterschaft als Teamkapitän aufs Feld.
Helms Ambitionen auf einen ELF-Meisterschaftstitel sind nicht der einzige Beweggrund für seinen Wechsel zur Stuttgart Surge – hierzu kommen auch noch zwischenmenschliche Aspekte:

Neben seinen hervorragenden footballerischen Kompetenzen ist es auch diese persönliche Seite, die León Helm auszeichnet. So sorgte er in der vergangenen Saison für einen der schönsten Momente in der Geschichte der European League of Football, als er seiner Lebensgefährtin im Stadion einen Heiratsantrag machte.

Helm spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with Frankfurt Galaxy, where he continued to impress. In the 23 games he played for Frankfurt, he made his mark on the Galaxy's running game as a fullback and runningback, scoring 8 touchdowns. As a result, the European League of Football named him to the second all-star team in both 2022 and 2023. The year before, he earned a spot on the German Football League All Star Team.
The fact that León Helm's athletic skills are in demand has been proven many times: During his time with the Saarland Hurricanes from 2006 to 2021, he was called up to numerous national teams, including the Baden-Württemberg U16 national team in 2011 and the RLP/Saar Mad Dogs team from 2011 to 2014. He has also played for the German national team for many years, with whom he won 2nd place at the 2017 World Games as a senior. As a player for the junior national team, he finished 3rd at the U19 European Championships in 2013 and led the team as team captain at the U19 World Championships in 2014.
Helm's ambitions for an ELF championship title are not the only reason for his move to the Stuttgart Surge - there are also interpersonal aspects:
