Der Trainerstab von Stuttgart Surge nimmt weiter Formen an. In der Defensive Line bleibt ein bekanntes Gesicht erhalten. Justin Bernthaler startet das dritte Jahr für Stuttgart Surge.
Statement Justin Bernthaler: „Ich bin seit dem ersten Tag Teil der Stuttgart Surge-Organisation, weil ich an der Idee der European League of Football teilhaben wollte, Football in Europa auf ein neues Niveau zu bringen. Außerdem bin ich gebürtiger Stuttgarter und habe mich Surge in der Hoffnung angeschlossen, dem Team und der Stadt Stuttgart, zu ihrem ersten Titel zu verhelfen.“
Bernthaler begann seine Football-Karriere 2004 bei den Stuttgart Scorpions. In der Jugend machte er sich schnell einen Namen und half der U19 bei der Rückkehr in die GFL Juniors. Zwei Mal schaffte er es mit seinen Teamkollegen sogar in den Junior Bowl. Zudem spielte er in der Jugend-Nationalmannschaft und gewann 2008 in Spanien den Europameistertitel.
Im Anschluss spielte er zwei Jahre in der GFL-Mannschaft der Scorpions, ehe er den Sprung in die USA wagte. Am Fullerton College in Los Angeles erkämpfte er sich in der Saisonvorbereitung einen Kaderplatz und stand bereits im ersten Saisonspiel in der Startaufstellung. Nach einem erfolgreichen Jahr mit dem Sieg im Golden Empire Bowl, verbesserte er sich im zweiten Jahr nochmals und wurde landesweit zum zweitbesten Weak Side Defensive End gekürt. Zahlreiche Division-1-Teams wurden auf ihn aufmerksam und er entschied sich am Ende für die University of Wyoming, wo er bis 2015 spielte.
Nach dem Ende seines Studiums blieb er zunächst in den USA und arbeitete dort. Doch 2018 kam er zurück in seine Heimat und wurde Trainer in der Jugend der Stuttgart Scorpions und später auch in der GFL. Bernthaler steht nun schon das dritte Jahr in folge für Stuttgart Surge an der Sideline.

Statement Justin Bernthaler: "I have been a part the Stuttgart Surge organisation since day one because I wanted to take part in the European League of Footballs vision of getting Football to the next level in Europe. I am also a Stuttgart native and joined the Surge in the hopes of aiding the team and the city of Stuttgart to its first title."
Bernthaler began his football career in 2004 with the Stuttgart Scorpions. He quickly made a name for himself in the youth ranks, helping the U19s return to the GFL Juniors. He then even made it to the Junior Bowl twice with his teammates. He also played for the national youth team and won the European Championship title in Spain in 2008.
He then played for the Scorpions' GFL team for two years before making the leap to the USA. At Fullerton College in Los Angeles, he earned a spot on the squad during pre-season and was even in the starting lineup for the first game of the season. After a successful year that included a Golden Empire Bowl victory, he improved again in his sophomore year and was named the nation's second-best weak-side defensive end. Numerous Division 1 teams took notice of him and he ended up choosing the University of Wyoming, where he played until 2015.
After graduating, he initially stayed and worked in the United States. But in 2018 he came back to his home country and then became a coach with the Stuttgart Scorpions in the youth and later also in the GFL. Bernthaler is now for the third year at the Surge Sideline.
