Der Coaching-Staff von Stuttgart Surge nimmt langsam Form an. Nach der Verpflichtung von Jordan Neuman (Headcoach & Offensive Coordinator), Johannes Brenner (Defensive Coordinator) und Cody Pastorino (Assistant Defensive Coordinator) stößt nun der erste Position Coach zur schwäbischen ELF-Franchise. Daniel McCray kommt von den Heidelberg Hunters in die Landeshauptstadt und wird in der Saison 2023 die Linebacker betreuen. In der Universitätsstadt war er zuvor als Headcoach für die Hunters tätig und konnte das Team in der vergangenen Saison zum Aufstieg in die Regionalliga führen. Für Neuman und Co. ist er kein Unbekannter, schließlich spielte er von 2014 bis 2018 für die Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.
Daniel McCray: Der gebürtige Speyerer kam als 14-Jähriger erstmals mit American Football in Berührung, als er ein Probetraining bei den Heidelberg Bulls absolvierte. Zuvor versuchte er sich im Fußball, Handball und auch im Basketball, blieb aber ab dem ersten Training dem Football als Linebacker treu. Schnell wurde er in die baden-württembergische Jugendauswahl und auch die deutsche Juniorennationalmannschaft berufen. 2003 wechselte er zu den Weinheim Longhorns, wo er schließlich den Sprung in die GFL-Herrenmannschaft schaffte. Erst 2010 verließ er die Longhorns in Richtung Marburg Mercenaries, bevor er ein Jahr später zu den Saarland Hurricanes wechselte. Auch dort blieb er nur für eine Spielzeit, denn 2012 und 2013 lief er für die Rhein-Neckar Bandits aus Mannheim auf. Seit 2014 spielte er schließlich für die Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns und konnte, nach drei Finalniederlagen in Folge, in den Jahren 2017 und 2018 mit dem Team den German Bowl für sich entscheiden. Auch international konnte McCray Erfolge feiern, denn 2010 und 2014 wurde er mit der deutschen Nationalmannschaft Europameister. 2018 beendete er seine Karriere und stieg ins Trainergeschäft ein. Er übernahm die Heidelberg Hunters als Headcoach und führte den Landesligisten 2021 in die Oberliga und anschließend direkt in die Regionalliga. Seit 2021 betreut er die Linebacker der Nationalmannschaft, nun also auch die von Stuttgart Surge.
The Stuttgart Surge coaching staff is slowly taking shape. After signing Jordan Neuman (head coach & offensive coordinator), Johannes Brenner (defensive coordinator) and Cody Pastorino (assistant defensive coordinator), the first position coach is joining the Swabian ELF franchise. Daniel McCray joins from the Heidelberg Hunters and will coach the linebackers in the 2023 season. He previously worked as head coach of the Hunters and lead the team to promotion into the Regionalliga (German 3rd tier). He knows Neuman and co. pretty well as he was a former player of the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns from 2014 to 2018.
Daniel McCray: Born in Speyer, he first came into contact with American Football aged 14 when he took part in a tryout with the Heidelberg Bulls. Before that, he tried his hand at soccer, handball and basketball, but stayed with football as a linebacker after the first practice session. He was quickly called up to the Baden-Württemberg state youth team and also the German junior national team. In 2003, he joined the Weinheim Longhorns, where he eventually made it into the men's team competing in the GFL at the time. It wasn't until 2010 when he left the Longhorns for the Marburg Mercenaries, before joining the Saarland Hurricanes one year later. There he also stayed for one season before making the switch to the Rhein-Neckar Bandits from Mannheim, where he played during the 2012 and 2013 season. His last move came in 2014, when he joined the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns and after losing three finals in a row he finally won the German Bowl in 2017 and 2018. He was also succesful on international level as he won the European Championship with the German national team in 2010 and 2014. He hung up his cleats in 2018 and started his coaching career. He became head coach of the Heidelberg Hunters and led the team to successive promotions in 2021 (into the German 4th tier) and 2022 (into the German 3rd tier). He's been coaching the linebackers of the German national team since 2021 and will now take care of the group at Stuttgart Surge.
