The captain stays on board!

Great news for all supporters of the Stuttgart Surge! Linebacker and defensive captain Nijaz Hamulic will stay in Stuttgart for the upcoming ELF season. The 32-year-old German with Bosnian roots, nicknamed Ninja or Torpedo, is again showing his fighting spirit “auf der Waldau“ in 2022 and will relentlessly hustle opposing offenses with his 1,87m tall and 105kg heavy frame.

Nijaz originally started out with soccer and was very talented at that. He was invited to train with the two biggest clubs in Stuttgart (VfB Stuttgart and Stuttgarter Kickers) but chose to stay closer to his home and his friends as he also wasn’t completely fulfilled by the sport itself. Instead he chose to start his American Football career, rather late at 24, at local club Böblingen Bears. His experiences at kicking a ball later served him well in American Football, as he took on kicking duties with the Stuttgart Scorpions.

Hamulic not only changed teams but also positions as he switched from defensive back to linebacker. He quickly took on a leading role in the defense and is an emotional leader up until this day. Fighting spirit, pure will and the ability to drag his teammates along are some of the qualities that make him stand out on the field. Off the field he always provides some fun and good times and loves the interaction with the fans. In American Football he enjoys the challenge of being pushed to his limits and is a big fan of the Las Vegas Raiders and their ex-player Khalil Mack. His goal with the Surge? Nothing less than bringing the title back home to Stuttgart!
