Trotz all des Wandels bei Stuttgart Surge für die neue Saison gibt es Spieler, die sich auch im dritten Jahr in Folge behaupten. Sercan Vardar ist in der Defensive Line einer davon, denn der Publikumsliebling und Surge-Vlogger streift sich auch 2023 wieder das Navy Blue über.
Statement Sercan Vardar: "Ich habe mich entschieden, für Stuttgart Surge zu spielen, weil ich dem Team helfen möchte, Football-Spiele zu gewinnen. Nach zwei Jahren bei Surge ist Stuttgart zu meiner zweiten Heimat geworden und ich mag die Leute, die Stadt, die Fans und jeden im Team der Surge. Also habe ich mich entschieden, für mein drittes Jahr in Folge zurückzukommen. Die letzten beiden Jahre waren sehr hart und nach vielen Änderungen bei den Coaches und im Management freue ich mich nun darauf, eine wettbewerbsfähige Mannschaft zu stellen und den Fans und der Stadt Stuttgart das zu geben, was sie verdienen…SIEGE!"
Der 29-Jährige begann 2016 mit dem Football, nachdem er sich zuvor im Fußball und Boxen ausprobiert hatte. In seiner Heimat Augsburg begann er bei den Raptors und sorgte in der Bayernliga direkt mächtig für Furore. 2019 gelangen ihm in zehn Spielen unglaubliche 26 Sacks und das Interesse am gelernten Architekt war dementsprechend groß. Seine Wahl fiel auf die Ingolstadt Dukes, für die er aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie jedoch kein Spiel in der GFL absolvieren konnte.
Vardar war 2017 Rookie of the Year, 2018 und 2019 Defensive MVP des Teams und wurde in der vergangenen Saison nach dem Heimspiel gegen die Vienna Vikings als Gameday MVP ausgewählt. Nach seiner Premierensaison in der European League of Football 2021, konnte er sich 2022 deutlich steigern. Insgesamt kann er auf 50 Tackles, 3,5 Sacks, 12,5 Tackles for Loss, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery und 1 geblockten Kick zurückblicken.
Despite all the change at Stuttgart Surge for the new season, there are players who are returning for the third year in a row. Defensive lineman Sercan Vardar is one of them as the crowd favorite and Surge vlogger dons the Navy Blue again in 2023.
Statement Sercan Vardar: “I chose to play for the Stuttgart Surge, because I want to help the team win football games. After two years of playing for the Surge, Stuttgart became my second home and I really like the people, the city, the fans, and everybody on the staff of the Surge, so I decided to come back for my third year in a row. The last two years were very tough and after many changes in the coaching staff and even in the management, I am really looking forward to becoming a competitive football franchise and get the fans and the city of Stuttgart what they deserve…WINS!"
The 29-year-old started playing soccer in 2016, having previously tried his hand at soccer and boxing. In his native Augsburg, he started with the Raptors and instantly had an impact in the Bavarian league. In 2019, he recorded an incredible 26 sacks in ten games and the trained architect put a lot of other teams on notice. His choice fell on the Ingolstadt Dukes, for whom, however, he could not play a game in the GFL due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vardar was the team's Rookie of the Year in 2017 as well as Defensive MVP in 2018 and 2019, and was selected as Gameday MVP last season after the home game against the Vienna Vikings. After his debut season in the European League of Football in 2021, he improved significantly in 2022. In total, he has recorded 50 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 1 blocked kick.
