Another talent for the Surge defense

Stuttgart Surge has signed another promising talent for the upcoming season. Defensive tackle Michael Kimpiabi, who has already played in the German Football League, will join the Surge.

„I was looking for a new challenge and made sure it was with the best league in Europe. The Surge showed real interest in me gave me a chance, which is the reason why I am fully committed. The tryout further developed my skills and I realized I can improve my personal game. In the end, those were the reasons I chose the Surge“, Kimpiabi explains his decision.

Hailing from the Democratic Republic of Kongo, Michael has lived in Switzerland since the age of three and started his American football career 2015 with the Zürich Renegades. After a brief stint with the Winterthur Warriors he went to the Bristol Academy of Sports, where he could attract offers from US colleges like Ohio, Toledo and Louisville.

The 23-year old instead opted for a switch to the German Football League and joined the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns in 2019. Despite only playing a backup role in an immensely talented defense, Michael often showed flashes of his potential. Last season the 6’5“ (1,95m) tall and 305lbs (138kg) heavy defensive tackle played for the Potdsam Royals. The fitness coach could only play in 4 games, however in this short time he recorded seven tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack. Now he wants to wreak havoc among offensive lines of the ELF.
