Passend zum Neujahr hat die Stuttgart Surge einen absoluten Knaller zu vermelden: Der deutsche NFL- und CFL-Profispieler Christopher Ezeala hat bei der Stuttgart Surge unterschrieben und wird 2024 als Linebacker mit dem Blitz auf dem Helm auflaufen.
Christopher Nwabuisi Ezeala, wie er mit vollem Namen heißt, ist eines der Aushängeschilder des deutschen und europäischen Footballs. Über das International Player Pathway Program wurde er 2018 von der NFL entdeckt und stand in den Jahren 2018 und 2019 bei den Baltimore Ravens unter Vertrag.
Nach einem kurzen Einsatz bei den Cologne Centurions im Gründungsjahr der European League of Football 2021 wurde er im Global Draft der Canadian Football League (CFL) von den Saskatchewan Roughriders ausgewählt und absolvierte daraufhin in der Season 2021 11 Spiele als Starter.
Vor seinem Sprung in den professionellen American Football lernte Ezeala den Sport in den Jugendmannschaften der Feldkirchen Lions und der München Rangers kennen. In der German Football League (GFL) spielte er für die Ingolstadt Dukes und später für die Allgäu Comets. In dieser Zeit wurde er dreimal mit der Berufung ins Bavarian All Star-Team geehrt.
Das große Talent Ezealas wird neben seinem bisherigen Karriereverlauf auch an seiner Flexibilität deutlich. Er spielte in seinen bisherigen Stationen auf verschiedenen Positionen. Er kann sowohl in der Defense als Linebacker oder Defensive Liner als auch in der Offense als Runningback oder Fullback mit seinen herausragenden Fähigkeiten glänzen.
Das in der Vergangenheit stetig gestiegene sportliche Niveau der European League of Football ist auch Christopher Ezeala nicht verborgen geblieben. Beim letztjährigen Finalisten Stuttgart Surge findet der Football-Profi die optimalen Voraussetzungen, um sein Können auf dem höchsten europäischen Niveau zu zeigen und die Surge in der Saison 2024 zu Erfolgen zu führen. Ezeala ist ein Vollblut-Footballer. Die Liebe zum Sport zeigt sich auch in seinem Engagement abseits des Platzes. Seit Jahren schon unterstützt er die Förderung des American Football in Deutschland und ganz Europa. Er coacht bei Jugendcamps wie z.B. dem Jakob Johnson Youth Camp 2022, ist als Football-Botschafter bei NFL Deutschland Flag Football-Turnieren präsent und supportet junge Spieler an der NFL Academy in London. Da liegt es nahe, dass sich Ezeala als Coach auch aktiv am Schulprogramm der Stuttgart Surge beteiligen wird. Das Schulprogramm wird an zahlreichen Schulen in Stuttgart und Umgebung durchgeführt, um die Sportart und die Werte des American Football in den Unterricht und damit an die Kinder und Jugendlichen zu bringen.

Just in time for the New Year, the Stuttgart Surge has an absolute scoop to announce: German NFL and CFL pro Christopher Ezeala has signed with the Stuttgart Surge and will be a linebacker with the lightning bolt on his helmet in 2024.
Christopher Nwabuisi Ezeala, to give him his full name, is one of the figureheads of German and European football. He was discovered by the NFL through the International Player Pathway Program in 2018 and signed with the Baltimore Ravens for 2018 and 2019.
After a brief stint with the Cologne Centurions in the inaugural year of the European League of Football 2021, he was selected by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL) Global Draft and started 11 games in the 2021 season.
Before making the leap to professional American football, Ezeala played youth football for the Feldkirchen Lions and Munich Rangers. In the German Football League (GFL), he played for the Ingolstadt Dukes and later the Allgäu Comets. During this time, he was named to the Bavarian All-Star Team three times.
In addition to his career to date, Ezeala's great talent is also evident in his flexibility. He has played in a variety of positions at his previous clubs. He can shine on the defensive side of the ball as a linebacker or defensive lineman as well as on the offensive side as a running back or fullback with his outstanding skills.

Ezeala is a thoroughbred footballer. His love for the sport is also evident in his involvement off the field. For years, he has been involved in promoting American football in Germany and throughout Europe. He coaches at youth camps such as the Jakob Johnson Youth Camp 2022, is present as a football ambassador at NFL Germany flag football tournaments and supports young players at the NFL Academy in London. So it makes sense that Ezeala will also be actively involved as a coach in the Stuttgart Surge's in-school program. The school program is an initiative of the Stuttgart Surge to bring the sport and values of American football into the classroom and into the hearts and minds of young people in the Stuttgart area.
