Cornerback Ben Wenzler bleibt dem Team seiner Heimatstadt Stuttgart treu und verlängert seinen Vertrag bis 2024. Er geht damit in seine vierte Saison bei der Stuttgart Surge.
Der 23-jährige Ben Wenzler steht seit der Gründung der European League of Football 2021 bei der Stuttgart Surge unter Vertrag und hat mit der Franchise alle Höhen und Tiefen durchlebt. Nach zwei Siegen in der Saison 2021, null Siegen in der Saison 2022 und all den Herausforderungen, die die Franchise und die Liga allgemein zu Beginn zu meistern hatten, blieb Wenzler treu und konnte somit 2023 den Weg bis ins Championship-Finale bestreiten.
Die positive Entwicklung der Stuttgart Surge in den letzten Jahren spiegelt sich in den Leistungen Wenzlers wider, der sich von Saison zu Saison steigert: 2021 kam der Cornerback auf 18 Total Tackles, 1,5 Tackles for Loss und eine Interception. 2022 steigerte er diese Werte auf 47 Total Tackles, 2,5 Tackles for Loss und zwei Wechsel des Angriffsrechts (1 Interception und 1 Forced Fumble). Im Jahr 2023 legte er noch einen drauf und kam auf 49 Total Tackles, 2,5 Tackles for Loss und drei Wechsel des Angriffsrechts (2 Interceptions und 1 Forced Fumble). Zusammen mit seinen anderen Cornerback-Kollegen führte die Surge die Liga in der Saison 2023 mit 21 Interceptions an.
Wenzler kam 2021 von den Stuttgart Scorpions zur Stuttgart Surge. Für die Scorpions spielte er acht Jahre lang, von 2013 bis 2020. 2017 spielte er für ein Jahr an der Alma High School und sammelte wertvolle Erfahrungen in den USA.
Als Spieler und als Persönlichkeit ist der 1,83 Meter große und 83 Kilogramm schwere Cornerback ein absoluter Kämpfer, der seine Mitspieler mitreißt und antreibt:

Cornerback Ben Wenzler remains loyal to his hometown Stuttgart and extends his contract through 2024, entering his fourth season with the Stuttgart Surge.
Wenzler, 23, has been with the Stuttgart Surge since the European League of Football was founded in 2021 and has seen the franchise rise and fall. After two wins in the 2021 season, zero wins in the 2022 season and all the challenges that the franchise and the league in general had to overcome in the beginning, Wenzler stayed loyal and was able to make it all the way to the championship final in 2023.
The positive development of the Stuttgart Surge in recent years is reflected in Wenzler's performance, which is improving from season to season: In 2021, the cornerback recorded 18 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and an interception. In 2022, he upped those numbers to 47 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two changes of possession (1 interception and 1 forced fumble). In 2023, he went one better and recorded 49 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and three changes of possession (2 interceptions and 1 forced fumble). Along with his other cornerback teammates, the Surge led the league with 21 interceptions in the 2023 season.
Wenzler joined the Stuttgart Surge in 2021 from the Stuttgart Scorpions. He played for the Scorpions for eight years, from 2013 to 2020. In 2017, he played one year at Alma High School and gained valuable experience in the USA.
As a player and as a person, the 1.83m tall, 83kg cornerback is an absolute fighter who drives and motivates his teammates:
